
As the electrical vehicle infrastructure and industry are rapidly expanding, international players continue to flock to Denmark to tap into the buzzing EV ecosystem.
Due to the progressive energy policies, tax exemption on electrical vehicles (EVs) and high adoption rates of new technologies by Danish consumers, many world leading EV companies are involved in the EV industry in Denmark. This includes, naming a few, BetterPlace and the Edison Project that has IBM, Siemens and Dong as partners.
Now Greentech Automotive who is already test-driving EVs on the island of Bornholm is also planning to launch manufacturing facilities in Denmark and is working with Invest in Denmark on the matter. Terry McAuliffe, the company’s CEO says that Denmark offers the best opportunities of all EU countries because of EV friendly policies, and because consumers are ready to adapt EVs. Greentech Automotive is expected to have the first car roll off the assembly lines on July 4th, and expects to sell its first 10,000 cars in Denmark.
This spring German Mercedes-Benz is likewise looking north when delivering the worlds first electric van in Denmark. The order of the Vito E-cell, as the van is called, comes from money transportation company Loomis who expects to expand its EV fleet in both Denmark and other countries if the bet on the EV van proves to be a success. The Vito E-cell is the result of Mercedes-Benz long-term bet on CleanDrive Technology.
Overall, 2011 looks to be the year when EVs really penetrate the market. The EV fleet in Denmark is expected to expand to more than 2000 vehicles before we adjust our calendars to 2012, according to the Danish EV Alliance.
