A Little Help from Our Green Friends

Think of a future where plants get your car going instead of gasoline and a future where all the products that today are produced by chemicals derived from oil is replaced by sustainable products without these oil-based chemicals. This future is near! Soon we will be able to create optimized and tailored plants to work as small green factories that can produce enzymes with light as an energy source. Not long ago we finished our third and yet again successful International Synthetic Biology Workshop at UC Berkeley with more than 200 top scientists. The workshop consolidated a new partnership between Denmark and California in this very promising area of research.

This particular collaboration will include, amongst other projects, a focus on reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and strengthening the development of sustainable production and personalized medicine. So far the partnership has generated new ideas that have lead to exciting results and a very fertile ground for cooperation. The next challenge is to exchange even more researchers across the Atlantic. Read more about the workshop here.
