Reality Hits a Virtual Wall

Our latest workshop at Stanford University, Explosions of Virtuality, evolved around our daily interactions with each other in a social and virtual world. How can and should we reflect on the growing pattern of communication in the virtual evolution we are going through? This workshop was another product of the collaboration between the H-STAR Institute at Stanford University and Innovation Center Denmark, Silicon Valley.

What can we transpire from the virtual world when we give a robot personality by sitting at our desk at work and the robot is attending a meeting for us on other side of the planet while you are looking and talking through it and at the same remote controlling it with your computer? This aspect among many others was explored during the workshop. Do these virtual tools help us cross boundaries that provide us with new spaces full of sensations, intensity and freedom or are we simply just observing advanced ways to manage people and ourselves in relation to the market, research, technologies and the state? Having experienced a range of different perspectives and experiments through this workshop, the answer to both is – yes!
